President Joe Biden escalated his personal attacks on Donald Trump on Tuesday, calling the presumptive Republican nominee a "loser" and mocking his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Biden delivered these remarks during an annual awards gala for the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies.
“That other guy, that loser. I think he’s having trouble," Biden said, avoiding directly naming Trump.
The comment drew laughter from the audience at the event, which celebrated Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
Biden also criticized Trump's response to the Covid-19 pandemic during his tenure four years ago.
"Look, I’ll never forget him lying about the pandemic, telling Americans to inject bleach into their skin," Biden said on Tuesday. "I wonder if he did it. It might explain something."
In 2020, Trump suggested that disinfectant might help clear the body of Covid-19 by "injection."
Multiple aides and advisers recently told NBC News that Biden’s increasing attacks on his Republican rival, including jabs at his financial troubles and weight, are part of a strategy driven by the president himself.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Biden's remarks Tuesday night.
This was not the first time Biden referenced Trump's Covid-19 comments. At campaign events last week, he mentioned Trump's suggestion to use a cleaning agent to combat the virus.
“Remember him saying the best thing to do is just inject a little bleach in your arm?” Biden said at a campaign reception on Friday. “That’s what he said. And he meant it. I wish he had done a little bit himself.”
